Duration: 1 Day Classroom or 8 hours Online
Audience: Process Engineers, Application Engineers, Boiler Technicians, DCS technicians, Instrument Engineers, and Supervisors.
Prerequisites: Some plant experience and/or a 2-year associate's diploma in a technical field.Course Material: Sight Glass Training slides and certificate of completion.

Course Description:

This comprehensive course provides in-depth training on industrial sight glasses and their critical applications across process industries. Participants will learn the fundamental principles of sight glass technology, including sight flow indicators, tank sight glasses, glass tube level gauges, fused sight glasses, and sanitary sight glasses used in chemical processing, food and beverage, pharmaceutical, oil and gas, and power generation industries.

The course covers essential sight glass selection criteria, safety protocols, installation best practices, and maintenance procedures. Training emphasizes material compatibility, pressure and temperature ratings, thermal shock resistance, and proper troubleshooting techniques. Students will understand how sight glasses enable visual monitoring of processes inside vessels and pipelines without opening the system, improving safety and quality control.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the course, attendees will have comprehensive knowledge of industrial sight glass instrumentation and their applications across multiple industries. Participants will understand the operational principles of all major sight glass types, including sight flow indicators for pipeline monitoring, tank sight glasses for level observation, glass tube level gauges for continuous monitoring, fused sight glasses for high-pressure applications, and sanitary sight glasses for hygienic processes.

Students will be proficient in sight glass material selection based on operating conditions, including temperature resistance requirements for soda lime glass, borosilicate glass, quartz, and sapphire glass applications. Attendees will master safety considerations, including proper PPE usage during inspection and maintenance, understanding thermal shock resistance factors, and recognizing sight glass failure modes.

Participants will gain practical skills in sight glass installation practices with proper alignment and torque control, maintenance and inspection procedures for preventing failures, troubleshooting common sight glass problems, including cloudiness and leaks, and understanding industry standards, including ASME, DIN, and 3-A Sanitary Standards.

Students will understand advanced topics such as optical pyrometry applications using sight glasses, turbidity sensor integration with sight glass systems, thermal imaging through IR-transparent sight glass materials, and sight glass applications in high-temperature reactors and distillation columns.
